Sushi

You can’t make sushi yourself at home, you have to be a Japanese grandmaster! You think that too? You thought wrong! I show you how easy you can prepare delicious sushi in your home kitchen. The best: You can fill the rice rolls as you like – with fish, vegetarian or vegan.

It all starts with the rice: use sushi rice, wash it well and cook it for about 20 minutes. When it is still warm, we stir in a mixture of rice vinegar, salt and sugar – this gives the sushi its special flavor!
While the rice is cooling down, prepare your fillings. How about the classic salmon or cucumber?

Then it’s time to start filling! I recommend watching a YouTube video – it’s definitely easier to understand than if I explain the method in text form.
Now there is only one thing left to do – this time in Japanese: Itadakimasu.

Ingredients

  • 175 g sushi rice
  • 250 ml water
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

  • Wash sushi rice and bring to a boil with the water. Cover the pot and turn down to low heat. Let the rice swell for about 15 minutes. Do not open the lid, otherwise the water vapor will escape. Then remove the lid and let the rice cool in a large, wide bowl.
  • For the sushi marinade, heat the rice vinegar with salt and sugar until everything has dissolved. Then fold the vinegar mixture loosely into the rice, preferably in a cutting motion. The rice and vinegar should be about the same temperature.
  • After the rice has reached room temperature, the sushi can be rolled as desired.
